Damaged goods via fedex

I was wondering if anyone here has experience with fedex claims for a damaged shipment. I just shipped a pc to my brother, only for him to receive it with the heatsink detached, cdrom busted, and who know what else. I called up fedex, only to have them tell me that the inspection process could take up to four weeks, before I receive an answer.

This sounds a lot like an episode of Seinfeld.

If the CD Rom was busted, it sounds like it was really mishandled, but heatsinks will fly off the processors more than 50% of the time when they're shipped through those carriers.

I have had numerous BAD experiences with UPS when trying to make damage claims, but one very good experience with FedEx. They were friendly and very quick to reimburse me for the total amount I had insured the shipment for.

Of course, in my case, it was a $1100 laserdisc player, which was packed in its original packing material. They must have dropped the thing 20 feet. The stryrofoam underneath the player was compressed about an inch, and it landed so hard that the optical pickup inside actually *dented* the case outward.

So, anyway, in the event that you followed correct packing procedures (Which as far as I know, involve double-boxing your shipment, and seperating the 2 boxes by at least 2" of styrofoam peanuts on all sides) you will probably have a good experience. If you just put the PC in a box... dunno how that'll go.

Yea, I should've known better than to keep the hsf on there. But anywho... have any y'all ever tried to get reimbursement from fedex?

Thanks for the info, guys. Flot, I fear the worst, because my package wasn't "double-boxed"? I packaged the pc in an antec case box, which included hard styrofoam padding on the top and bottom, and I placed some large bubble-wrapping on the broad sides of the case.
