Hi All,

I hope I'm not being too anal here but I just bought a CPU and it arrived with a corner kind of bashed in... like it had been dropped or pushed in. The box was sealed, only damage to the corner... do you think the processor will be fine? There are no parts in the processor that would be affected by dropping it, are there?

Sorry if it's a stupid question... Thanks!

All yu can do is check it visually for any damage to the CPU case or bent pins. It's pretty tough, and the packaging absorbs a lot of punishment. One only really good way to check it is to use and see if it works.

The processor should be encased in a rigid plastic "frame" that would absorb the type of damage such as what you describe. I think it will be fine.

Just take a picture or two so that you have some evidence that, in case it is damaged, that you should get a return or claim against the delivery, etc

Hi, What kind of damage to the corner? If the corner is chipped off but no gold colored flecks are seen then the CPU may be OK. Any bent pins can be straightened, but must be perfectly straight so that they drop into the socket easily. Only way to be sure is to try it. If possible I would want to RMA that one anyway. Good Luck, Jim
