A couple weeks ago one of my closest friends left for west point USMA :( we've been there for eachother for the past 11 years, and i'm finding it really hard to cope without him :(

There wasn't a day that went by that we didnt see eachother, and now he will not be back until December 24th - 31st.

Just needed to vent :(, and if anyone has advice on how to deal with this, go ahead and speak up.

Find your own direction for growth. This way he will see some change in you when he returns. If he does not see any change/growth in you the next time he sees you, he may regard you as a remnant from his childhood.

Congratulations to him. you should be happy that you have a friend so regarded as to be accepted by the Academy. Good luck to him.

No kidding. The OP must have lived a pretty sheltered life if something like this is causing him to whine so much.

apparently you didn't have a very close childhood friend. It sounds like they were practically brothers

The OP is prob 17+. Time to deal with it like a adult now.

My brother and I, who are only one year apart, dealt with it just fine when we left to different colleges that are 1,000 miles apart. It's not that we don't love each other; we do very much, in fact. We just realize that being away from each other isn't the end of the world. In fact, one might argue it brings us closer. I treasure every moment that I see him even more on the holidays. Also, just because he isn't physically there, doesn't mean he isn't there for me. With all the technology that we have today--phones, IM, and video chatting--it's very easy to keep in touch. It isn't quite the same, but it's comforting, nevertheless.

OP, just because he isn't by your side, it won't diminish your relationship in anyway. Learn to be your own person. The alternative would be to apply to West Point yourself next year.

Congrats to him! WP is only one of the best universities/colleges this country has in so many ways.

OP, I get that you just needed to vent, and probably know you'll be ok. Just don't make your friend promise to keep your pic under his pillow. The other plebes just won't understand. ;)

I'm sorry, but this thread just reeks of posts that can be interpreted in very homoerotic ways.
