Car designed to thwart thefts stolen

Dallas police are investigating a glitch that resulted in the loss of one of their "bait" cars.

Sometime between Friday and Monday, a car outfitted with cameras, tracking capabilities and a remote engine-kill system designed to catch auto thieves was stolen somewhere in Dallas ? police would not say where. They also would not identify the make and model of the car, so that if it is recovered, it can remain part of the undercover fleet.

It is likely that the thieves do not know they have stolen a car that, if police can remotely repair the tracking glitch, auto theft detectives could still possibly locate.

Anyone with information can call the auto theft unit at 214-671-3535.

I wonder if it really was a glitch or some really serious car thief got it. :Q

Yes, because I'm sure it's the ONLY car of that make and model in the city. ;)

Sounds like that professor who had his laptop stolen then claimed that a half dozen government agencies were tracking it to scare the theif into returning it. :D If they could remotely repair the tracking glitch, the car would be in their possession by now.

It's only entrapment if they get someone to commit a crime that they wouldn't otherwise commit. If they just leave the car there for someone to steal, it's not entrapment.

i.e. if they use the prospect of huge profits to entice someone into a drug deal, that's entrapment.

how literal do you take it? I mean, if the car wasn't where it was located, then they couldn't have commited it.

just playing devil's advocate.

I'd think so, if they left the doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition. Then again, even if they did, how would that be different from having scantily clad females waiting for "Johns" to make business propositions to them? I think entrapment would be more like an undercover officer said, "Hey, I'll give you $100 to steal that car over there. It even has keys in the ignition."

By not putting potential murderers in solitary confinement, you are allowing them to find people to murder and therefore they can commit murders. All people are potential murderers. Hence, not locking up every person in solitary is entrapment.

Sure they would have. They just would have stolen a different car.

Until I moved a year ago, I lived in the Dallas-Fort Worth area (Arlington) for about twenty years. In my personal opinion, the Dallas Police Department is just about the most incompetent police department and corrupt as all hell (the FBI has been investigating them off and on again for years now).

wait... how the hell is anyone going to have information on this stolen car, if they refuse to even identify the make of the car?

Anyone who thinks this was entrapment, please raise your right hand.

Now, everyone who is left, please take note of those with their hands up, and NEVER ask legal advice from them.
