daisy-chaining switches

Me = obvious newb to networking. I've decided to install a 100M network in my house. Could I connect my two boxes to a switch then connect the switch to the router in another room without any speed drop? It just seems simpler to have one cable running between rooms instead of two.

And then... later I want to put in wireless for laptops and pocket PCs. Could I just get a wireless router and daisy chain it to the wired router?

Not likely perceptible. The store and forward technique of most cheap swtiches might add a ms or something to a ping. Probably not even that much.

Yes to your second question, though I'd suggest looking at dedicated Access Points rather than a Router/AP combo. With that said, the combo unit will likely be cheaper but will limit your wireless possibilities.
