Daily digicam question thread...

My mom wants a digicam for ~$250. So far I'm looking at Canon A70, FujiFilm A310 Zoom, Nikon Coolpix 3100, Olympus D-560, and Sony DSC-P72. Any suggestions? I think the A70 has the most manual controls of the group, but remember my parents will be using the camera most of the time.

The Fuji is pretty easy to use, similar to 2650, but Canon is the best bang for your buck. I would go with A70 or the Fuji (there software sucks).

Canon! I have the A60 and love it. It's perfect for web posting. And it can do decent 5x7's. Might be nice to have the A70 if you want to print out a lot of photo's though.

canon

Looks like the A70 is leading here. 🙂 Anybody have experience with their warranty service? A few of the online reviews I read made it sound as if Canon's warranty service is horrible.

Canon all the way. I've had the S50 for about 3-4 days now and I can't put the damn thing down!

I know the S50 and the A70 aren't exactly twins, but to get an idea of what a total moron can do with a Canon digicam...

Got my mom the olympus d565 plus printer/scanner/copier deal from office max for x-mas.

First thing she complained about was battery life..did'nt even make it though unwrapping all presents...about 2 hours/40 picts with flash. With only two AA's it's short lived. get one with four or lithium.

Good point, I'll keep that in mind.

I got my mom the Olympus D-560 and she loves it. It's small, light, easy to use, no lens cap to fool with, takes good pics, ect (but ya, with only two batteries, it doesn't take long to run them dry). You can find one one for roughly $200 with rebates now adays. The Canon is the best one you listed, but it will cost you $60-70 more and if they aren't going to use the manual controls than what's the point?

I previously owned the Fuji 1300, and wouldn't hesitate to buy another Fuji either.

Anyway, good luck.
