Dafuq? Woman's accelerator gets stuck

N, put it in N

You know if that median was just a long muddy ditch without obstructions it might have been best to let mother nature slow the car down.

Turning off the car is bad. You lose power stearing.

In any modern car, though, the breaks will overpower the accelerator. There's no excuse if she wasn't pushing the breaks. Ticket + driving school should be in her future.

She was on the phone with a 911 operator for most of the time and the Operator was giving her different techniques to get the car to slow down. I assume they did try shifting into neutral etc.

I don't see what's so special about her driving ability. She was only on her cell. Wasn't like she was trying to put on eye liner, eat a bagel and smoke a cig too.🙄

Drive by wire, FTW.

Looking at the video the dumb woman couldn't even put the car into park, it kept rolling multiple times while she tried to get out. The State Trooper had to finally get into the vehicle to stop it.

This is probably a case of a real dumbass that doesn't know how to operate her vehicle and never tried to put it into Neutral.

a news article said she tried to move it to N and turn it off. neither would work.

finally she was able to pull up on the peddle and use the brake. even after she got out the car started to take off again. cops were able to stop it long enough to disconnect the battery.

Worst car in the world. Simultaneous failure of throttle linkage, transmission linkage, and ignition switch. Or was it ineptitude? I wonder which is more plausible?

That sounds suspicious. The odds of the shifter failing, the starter button failing, and the accelerator sticking are pretty slim. I've driven a LOT of Sorrentos from that model year. Never had a problem.

A car will run just fine with a disconnected battery.

Maybe she had this problem because she had converted it to be 100% electric. Because of that, the OEM transmission and ignition might have not been connected anymore, which would leave us with a single point of failure. Much more plausible.

Kamran Sarwar from A Best Automotive says that if you’re ever in this situation, it’s important to stay calm – and whatever you do, do not try to jam your car into “Park,” which would lock up your steering wheel and cause you to lose control.

wtf????

umm thats turning off the ignition you dumbass. PLUS throwing into park will just ratchet.

Wow. "Stearing?" "Breaks?" I hope you facepalm for that.

Anyway, why the eff would you need to steer a stopped car? Another thing: the wheel will not lock if you turn the key back to the run position. The engine will only restart if you did not put it in neutral. Next: There's a reason steering wheels do not lock at any reasonable driving-forward-at-speed steering angle.

Christ people she was on the phone with 911 and they helped her try different things. If she can talk and drive like that at the same time, with 1 hand, I'm pretty sure she wasn't panicing and not know what a brake vs. accelerator was. It's not operator error.

I do want to know why putting it in neutral didn't work though.

BTW, don't people have speakerphone on their cell? Why do people still talk with the phone on their ears while in the car???

So what? You lose POWER steering, you don't loose the steering itself. At highway speeds going in essentially a straight line power steering is pretty much meaningless, it provides no benefit whatsoever.

Turn off the ignition you stupid broad.
