DVI should mean sharper, faster, better for gaming

LCD prices are sliding after June/July when LCD makers across the board reported sales dropping 20% in just months. could be signaling the next tech slump

i personally wouldnt get a daewoo after my daewoo microwave died after 4 months (purchased from frys)

So if I have an LCD with VGA instead of DVI, will there be a noticeable difference in applications OTHER than video games?

frys is also offering this exact same monitor in store for $250 after MIR. It would be worth it for that, but they are charging $30 more for us to order online.

some people can detect the difference some can't. It depends on your eyes. :)

On the Sony 17" X73 I can see a differance between DVI and VGA. (Link to the Sony X73 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-006-051&depa=1 if you buy the last one I'll have to hurt you ... I want another before the end of the year)

Sending the same Output to both the VGA and DVI ports of the Sony X73 using a 9800XT.

The DVI is a hair sharper and a good deal brighter then the VGA.

Most importantly to me I can detect a Very very small amount of ghosting using VGA and No ghosting at all on the DVI.

This is a subjective test. But I have done it on all 3 of my X73's and get repeatable results. Though the results are certainly subjective.

The end result:
After seeing the differance for myself I won't buy a non-DVI LCD

the 17" princeton w/DVI at costco is a good LCD, you may still be able to get it for $299 after rebate. its a good deal if you factor in the costco return policy, and you get about $7 back for executive members.

I bought this guy and I have to say, I'm not thrilled by it. There is a lot of ghosting and fuzziness on the fonts. Of course, that may be because of my cheesy manual video switch or my funky system-pull Riva TNT2 Model 64 (it is the second display adapter on the machine), but text looked a lot sharper with ~8 year old second hand $35 Impression 14" monitor I had in the spot earlier. Graphics look OK, I guess, though, FWIW. I'll try it on another box so the signal isn't going through my lousy switch, and if it still looks fuzzy, back to Fry's it goes.

Except that I'm using W2K & Linux. Strangely, the ghosting doesn't appear as bad this morning. Either I'm getting used to it or maybe there is some "burn-in" process at work. But its still very noticeable, just not quite as annoying.

wow what's with crappy car companies and manufacturing monitors? Hyundai, Daewoo, well Mitubishi is an exception to the "crappy car" thing...

i want a mercedes benz monitor! Except that it will be on par with the mitsu diamondtron but will cost 5x as much...
