just got my toshiba from onvia...... dvd playback is alright.. although i dont have a retail copy of and software.. so i can only watch 5mins of video then its over...
but i tried ripping with audiocatilyst and i'm getting about the same speed as my plextor burner... did i buy the wrong drive for ripping??.. i wanna watch dvds sometimes but i wanna rip fast too... what drives should i look at?

8-10X is about as good as it gets. What OS are you running?

I have a Kenwood TrueX 72X that rips at 12X across the disk. This is petty slow for the drive but I think it is related to poor ASPI support in Win2K.

2 drives... 1 plex 12/10/32 and 1 toshiba DVD (hot deals last week) its a 12x dvd 40x cd....

anyways.. drive is pretty good so far.. i guess i'll keep it.. cant complain too much about it if thats about as good as DAE is gonna get

DAE is not gonna get any better than that unless you have a Plextor cdrom. I also have a Pioneer slot load and it doesn't rip any faster than 10x.
