I've been playing CoD4 in preparation for this the past couple of days. Too bad I'm going out of town this weekend. 🙁

How is this going to be integrated? Will there be additional game types just for the map pack, or will it just be thrown into the regular rotation IF everyone in the game has the map?

Hey Everyone ?

As you know, the Variety Map Pack for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare went up on Xbox Live at 6:30 AM this morning. I wanted to give you the details on how it all works for now and how it?s all going to work in a couple of days.

Once you?ve downloaded the maps you?ll notice two new playlists:

Variety Team Deathmatch

Variety Team Objective

These two playlists will only contain the new map packs on the Team Deathmatch and Objective gametypes, and is currently the only place you can play the new maps. Players on these two new playlists may be able to grab some extra XP this first weekend, so keep your eye on it closely.

DON?T WORRY THOUGH, I already know what you?re thinking??but I want to play all the gametypes on the new maps!?? and you will; because over the upcoming days the new maps will also be added to all other playlists and gametypes. This will allow people to get some gametype on the new maps right out the gate and get familiar with them on the more popular gametypes without dividing the community in half. Over the next few days as more and more people download the maps and join in, the maps will start showing up in the map rotation for all playlists.

So in short:

New Maps are in the Variety playlists.

In the upcoming days the new maps are going to be added to the rotation of all the playlists.

i'm still confused. what will happen to me if i don't ever download the new maps? does that mean that i will be kicked out of rooms where everyone else has the new maps if one of them comes up in the rotation?

IIRC, that's what they did to players who didn't download the map packs for COD2.

That's interesting. In Halo 3 they did the opposite - the maps would never come up unless everyone in the game had them. End result was I never saw the maps come up in anything but the DLC-specific playlists. I think the CoD 2 way sounds better - I don't mind being booted from a lobby as long as it manages to keep my party together (which in CoD 4 seems to be asking a lot).

I'm trying to download the pack right now, but it seems the release has really bogged down Xbox Live. There must be A LOT of people trying to download this COD map pack. That is good news!

I am not even able to download the update required to play CoD4 regularly at the moment, let alone download the map pack.

Live seems to have more and more issues lately with its inability to simply function properly. Considering we have to pay for the Gold service, it's extremely tiring.
