I pretty much disagree with almost everything you said.
[*]Centrino is what I'd recommend. We agree here.
[*]Don't get the top speed available. For example, going from the 2.13 GHz 770 to the 2.0 GHz 760 will save ~$300 for an unnoticible 6% speed difference. It isn't like 6% will make the laptop last any longer. Heck you could say the same thing about dropping one more notch.
[*]512 MB is probably ideal.
[*]For buisness software, he'll probably never use more than 8 GB. Why pay $100 more for 70 GB of space that will sit empty forever?
[*]Why spend all the money on a graphics card that will go unused forever?
[*]CDRW is pretty much standard. But if a DVD is available, it is often cheaper, and if he doesn't burn CDs it will be much more useful. Sometimes it is nice to pop in a DVD on a month long business trip.
[*]If he doesn't want to spend much, why recommend a computer that costs double of what an unnoticibly slower computer costs?
