You could start off easy. Go out with your father for a cup of coffee or something like that. Then, just let him know that you're there to talk with him - if he needs to talk. He might then open up a bit for you.

 
Let them do whatever they need to do. Just realize that it's not because of you, but their issues and problems. Just hang in there... same thing happened to me.
