Dad bought Blu-Ray by accident - now wants Blu-Ray set up. Advice?

So like the title says, Dad wants Blu-Ray now because he bought some BR discs by accident. I have yet to get into Blu-Ray myself and just want to make sure that I'm not missing something.

We are thinking of pitching in and getting him This TV (though seems to be out of stock now) or another <$300 one like This one maybe?

And This Blu-Ray player. Will we have issues if we go with the cheapest models we can find? Should we try and find something better?

I assume the TV has to be 1080p because below that (like 720p) there's no point for BR right? Can a Blu-Ray player work on a 720p TV? I don't know if they can get HD channels where they live.

Any advice appreciated, Parents are in Canada.

720p is more than fine for a 32" unless you're sitting REALLY close to it. Get the biggest decent TV you can afford and don't worry about 1080p. There are some 40" Dynex for about $350, or why not wait a few weeks for the Boxing Day deals.

Size matters, a lot -- more than any other feature.

Only as it relates to how far you are from it. If you're three feet from it, you're not going to get a 65" screen just as you're not going to go with a 32" 12 feet away.
