DA2 hit $47.99 on Amazon

Is it likely to drop to $47.99 on steam soon? If not, what's Amazon's redownload policy?

Or...is it likely to drop to $47.99 for DVD hard copy in stores? It was still $60 at walmart a couple days ago.

The last I saw SC2 was still $60 at Walmart. I don't assume DA2 is going to drop in B&M stores anytime soon.

You're comparing a successful sequel of a popular series that has been around for well over a decade, which has amassed millions of fans the world over... to a sequel of a new series that was rushed to completion and is currently being labeled as "a travesty" by fans of the first game.

Yeah, that's an apples to apples comparison. I'd listen to this guy OP he seems legit.

DA:O dropped to $30 not too long after it was released OP. If you're willing to wait 3-6 months I'm sure you'll see this drop as well.

He's right though, you're unlikely to see quick price drops in B&M stores, no matter how good or bad a game may be. Starcraft 2 is $10 cheaper online. DA2 is now $12 cheaper on Amazon than in a retail store.

He's definitely right about SC2 (Blizzard games stay high priced forever), but what I was saying was I saw DA:O drop in price in stores ~6 months after release. So if the OP is more worried about cost than playing soon, he should wait... especially given how bad reviews are. It simply won't hold its value like Blizzard games do. They're far and away the glowing exception to the rule and shouldn't be used as a standard.

Where I live DA:O definitely didn't drop within 6 months; I kept an eye on it.

I almost bought it full price at Walmart in Fall 10 because I was tired of waiting.

Thank God I didn't, because the complete edition went on sale on Steam over the holidays.

He was probably talking about the standard DAO that first came out not the ultimate edition that came out a lil over I think year after the original DAO. When the ultimate edition came out it was back up to full retail, but it has fallen relatively quick in price as well

I actually have been waiting on completely unrelated circumstances to go buy it at Walmart. Generally, I prefer to buy actual DVDs than to download games. I was probably going to go buy it at Walmart tomorrow when today I happened to see it drop to $48 on Amazon. It's not that I need to wait for a very low price, but I was thinking waiting a few more days for Steam to match Amazon wouldn't hurt. Thing is, I prefer Steam since I know their redownload policy is solid - ie, redownload as often as needed. When I get a new computer or have to reinstall windows I prefer not to have to mess with backups and being able to be 100% confident in redownloadability is golden.

Well I can tell you that Amazon's mp3 service is great. You can download as many times as you want as long as you can log into your account. That doesn't mean that this transfers to games, but one can assume if they know how to do digital dowloaded music right they could also get games right.

Just found out about Amazon's MP3 Service a few weeks ago and I love it. Cheaper than iTunes, no fussy DRM and no bloaty, awkward program to deal with.

With games though, I'm not too sure that I'm ready to dip my toes into digital distribution networks beyond Steam and the occasional D2D/Impulse buy.

Well with DA2 and all EA pc games that come out now for that matter, you cango to EA's website and put your cd key in and you download from your EA account.

Does this include old EA games? ie. Red Alert 1 & 2 etc.

If so, it'd be a good idea for me to hook back up with EADM.

I'm curious about this. I bought Madden 2008 a couple of years ago from EADM and it kept telling me after a year later I'd have no guarantee of getting it again. I haven't tried to redownload it either.

Interestingly, I might try later, as Steam seems to be VERY poor on sports games.

I doubt it with old games, but it can't hurt to stick the key and see if it works or not I would suppose.
