Da mouse on angel dust!

Hi,

I've tried twice now to install a Logitech mouse on my new computer. The first one was a First mouse, the second one was an Optical mouse. Both times the same thing happened, the thing is unusable. The cursor jumps all over the screen randomly opening up programs and boxes making a real pest of itself. I then uninstall it and put my old mouse back to work. Of course, the nasty thing behaves nicely on my wife's computer. She runs a Pent.2 350, I have an Athlon 1.2 on an Asus A7A266 Mobo with 512 Crucial DDR, Win 98se-Win 2000 dual boot.

I'd appreciate any help with this mystery.

PS/2 or USB?

I ran "Ps2Rate" in the past to get the sample rate up, which caused some erratic behavior with the mouse. remove any utils, reboot, and reinstall the newest logitech drivers.

I use PS/2 because I have to hook it up to an extension chord so it will reach my bathroom where I do vocal and acoustic guitar parts in my home studio. (Sorry for the long sentence!) I tried uninstalling and installing last time but not his time. I decided to consider my blood pressure and gave up quickly. I may try it tommorrow after some yoga.
