Im undertaking a new o/c project

my previous setup was ti4600 gainward/asus p4b533v/2.26@2.8Ghz/512Mb corsair xms pc3200

Now while most people would find not much wrong wiv that old setup, Im a habitual tinkerer in need of more! I always want something better!

Now Im thinking of

radeon 9700/ the absolute best and latest mobo/ram/cpu for reaching 3Ghz++ air cooled. Ram Im thinkin of is corsair pc3500. Mobo thats been banded about is a7v8x. Dunno if thats the best there is though.

Fellow overclockers - what are your reccomendations for the absolute best, money no object, combo to get 3ghz+++???

cheers!

Isn't the a7v8x an AMD mobo? None of the AMD processors out there will get a sniff of 3GHz this year, and perhaps next year.

Reviews on the Corsair XMS PC3500 have been good, so you're alright there. As for your processor, the C1 stepping is becoming available for the P4 Northwood cores. I've heard that almost any CPU with the C1 stepping will make it to 3GHz with a fair chance of getting to 3.2GHz. Good luck on your project. Peace.

yes a7v8x is amdboard and as stated above will not get to 3ghz

pretty much any p4 with the new c1 stepping should be good for 3ghz+ (maybe get one of the ones closer to 3ghz to begin with like 2.66 or something)

abit it7 max was an awesome mobo from what ive seen for overclocking
im not entirely sure about it7 max2 though...

Well, if money is no object, wait a few days and get a 3.06GHz P4 with Hyperthreading. Then see how far you can push it. Then even Intel will guarantee you'll get 3GHz. :)

Agree on waiting for the new hyperthreading processor. And if price is no object, Mushkin DDR 3200 Ram is hard to beat, especially paired with an ASUS P4PE mainboard. That should be a wicked combination! In fact I'm putting one together right now in a Lian Li case and adding in Ultra 320 SCSI disks and Adaptec controller with 1 Gb of RAM.
