D50 SLR $599.00 plus free stuff

Man.. this camera must be hot.. There are many retailers that have it for under $600 now.. This is perfect for entry into the DSLR world

It's not a bad camera, but my friend who had one said that the lens that comes with it doesn't do justice for the camera. If you can afford it, spend the extra cash and get a D70s. The Minolta Maxxum 5D isn't bad either (I have one and love it).

That's pretty sweet. 6 MP is a little weak for a DSLR though. I'm holding out to get a 12 when they're under 800.

For a DSLR the CMOS is so much bigger than the regular compact cameras that have 7MP or 9MP that it will produce a much better picture than those others.

Hmmmm...has anyone went out and bought this yet? For the "In the box" items it doesn't list the kit lens as included. If the lens isn't included, this isn't that hot at all. You can get it for $577 shipped from JR. Or even better yet, you can get it for $549 at B&H PhotoVideo.

EDIT: Thorin is totally right in this case. And if you really want a 12MP DSLR for under $800, you will be waiting a very long time. The 5D just came out, and it's a 12MP DSLR but it's also about $3000.

It includes,

body,
18-55 Lens
Battery,
Charger,
Strap,
Manuals and CD's,
A few other tidbits

Plus I also picked up a PNY 1GB SD card for $60.00

Thanks Dude

What do you think about the lens? I'm thinking that it doesn't provide quite enough zoom. I really wish that it includes the 55-200mm lens.

Nice.
My father adores his old PowerShot G2; I think it's horrendously outmoded. (@#$@#$ shutter delay...)
I wish he'd get off his kiester and buy something better; if these supported Pentax lenses, he'd likely already own one.
That said, this is the guy who bought a 1GB CF card because he was too @#$@#$ lazy to back up the files off of his 256mb CF card to the EXTERNAL backup hard drive he bought.

Out of curiousity, do these support MicroDrives? A 4GB Seagate drive can be had for about 110$ nowadays.

EDIT: D'oh! Answered own question; it used Secure Digital. I'd personally hold out for a Canon, but that's me. (The fact that every Canon product we own works flawlessly and the ink's pretty inexpensive colors my decision, of course.)

Correct, in fact many reviews point out to the D50's less Noise and CA that the D70s

So is it confirmed that the one at compusa is the 18-55mm lens

is this available in store?

and if so have people been able to pricematch this to staples or circuit city for even better deals?

How does spending the extra cash for a D70S solve a crappy lens problem on the D50? You can get a D50 + Sigma EX glass and still come out cheaper than a D70s.
