I have UT and a few other games and this happens with all of them, I try to run and it's almost too dark to see anything. I can brighten things up in 2D but not 3D.
THe brightness slider doesn't work in UT except for inside the interface, after brightening and then going back into the game it is still dark.
I have tried using different detonator drivers, currently at 6.50
This is Win2K Pro P3 @ 868mhz with a TNT2 card.
I have almost same setup on a WIn 98SE box and the brightness works fine. Also with my Win 2K Server box and GF2 card it works great. Only this one with the TNT2 does brightness adjustment not work.
What can I do?

Thanks

My guess is that your are running in OpenGL, like I used to (Win2K and TNT2). Yuck. I was pure frag bait in UT because I couldn't see anything.

Until you get a Voodoo card for OpenGL or a GeForce and run in D3D, that will always be a problem.

My GeForce MX is very clear now. Its like I got new glasses. I'm still frag bait, but I can see who shot me. :) :)

Actually no, your guess is pretty far off base - but thanks for trying. As I mentioned I have a TNT2 running on Win 98 with no darkness problem at all in UT. The one in my W2K pro box wont get brighter tho. It is in D3D mode, as I can't get GL mode to start.
It's perfect in my W98 TNT2 box and My W2K server GF2 box, but bad in the W2k Pro TNT2 box.

BTW I have DX8 loaded on all three machines too. Win2K Pro and Server boxes both have the SP1 update.

You probably did this already, but did you swap TNT2 cards to check
if you have a bad card?

Did you try the TNT2 in your Win2K server box? And put the GF2 in your Win2K pro?

Depending on what happens, you might find it easier to simply upgrade the TNT2 card,
rather than chase down any driver issues with the TNT2 and Win2K.

Sorry I can't offer better help. Good luck. :)

I fixed this problem by using PowerStrip to adjust the refresh rate on the monitor.
Believe me I tried a lot of stuff, I even installed the latest Nvidia beta driver 1080.
It turns out that when I set this thing to a certain refresh rate the brightness adjustment in 3D games works. How strange is that?
