D3200 coming soon...

I don't see the point. What can they upgrade from the D3100 which the D5100 doesn't already do?

I'm not really that familiar with the D3100, other than hearing that it is worlds above the D3000 and is a very capable camera.

The only things that come to mind would be a higher resolutin LCD, improvements in video, external mic jack. That sort of stuff.

Maybe add 'Masterpiece' button?

Which are all things the 5100 has.

Supposedly someone that works for the publisher commented on the Nikon Rumors post of this saying it was a mistake and they have no information on the 3200 as of yet.

In 35mm film era cameras weren't been upgraded each year at the pace as digital cameras are upgraded. Even digital Pro cameras aren't upgraded as often as entry level or mid level.
People were taking photos and didn't have much of headeache some(a lot) have today.

Corporations - cameras manufacturers do know pretty good peoples psychology:
They won't fool photo pros by upgrading pro cameras each year, but they can make $$$ by fooling photo hobbyists, beginners by "upgrading" entry level or mid level cameras.

All over internet, a lot of discussions about cameras - what that camera can do or can't. All camera can do - to use by a photographer - to take a photo. Photographers rarely do discuss cameras - they're busy taking photos with cameras they have.
Another group of people on the net - I call these "photo engineers", because what they do - discuss cameras, rarely can see photos taken by those people.

I myself? I don't care and wouldn't care about any upgraded camera, unless I can "squeeze" everything possible from that I have now...And I do have a lot to learn with one I have now.

Lots of folks, myself included, are equipment junkies. The camera companies have certainly learned how to entice us to upgrade needlessly.

Really? I'm using a D70 that's what, 7 years old? And considering a D7000 while keeping all of my lenses. DSLRs cost too much to grab a new one every year or two. I want 1080P video, and higher ISO/lower noise. The D3000 and D5000 series fails to impress for lack of the top LCD and ease of use without the giant LCD on.
