I have the perpetual xbox vs pc argument with one of my mates- so thats not really what i am looking to start here- but how will they manage to port a game that is totally unplayable (IMHO) on a 2500+, 512MB PC3200, nforce2, and a fx5200, which isn't exactly cutting edge, but certainly on bare specs makes the xbox look a bit silly.

We know that you need a good CPU (probably 2ghz+ or equivalent), at least 512MB of RAM, and at least a 128mb gf4ti to begin to enjoy the game on PC...so i guess that there's going to be some pretty cunning code optimizations, and the turning off of some of the more shiny graphical effects to get it running smoothly on the xbox? If this is indeed the case- will it end up looking like d3 with all the advanced options turned off at 640x480- 'cos that really doesnt give you a real d3 experience at all- and looks like cwap :p

This thread was provoked by a rather inebriated argument over the topic with the xbox-loving mate mentioned above- he ended up slurring things like 'xbox has amazing graphics potential', and that he loved his xbox 'cos it was too mch of a pain to close a few programs to run games on his pc' etc etc, which while entertaining didn't exactly give me any answers :)

The funny thing is, i think it will look worse than just because of the specs, because they will have to port OGL code to a DX code....

And all along Carmack was saying that he didnt like the directx code... hmmmm
