D2OL Just for the fun of it contest.

Slapstick

With the Thanksgiving weekend just 2 days away I thought a little contest might be in order. The rules are simple, guess the time the D2OL servers will crash this weekend and when they might be back up. No prizes given just a pat on the back for whomever gets closest.

I say they go down at 6:30 am EST on Thursday Nov 28 and they wont get them fixed until Monday Dec 2 at 11:00 am EST.

Since I'm crunchin' another project..... I hereby designate myself 'resident optimist'

my guess: They sail right through and D2OL breaths a collective sigh of relief 😀

Goes down Thursday evening and comes back up Tuesday Morning. And all we will get is a message to the Tune we have suspended operations till we fix the server outages you have been having.

I look at it this way! If the server goes down at all, I'm done with D2OL! Everything I have or will get, will be used for DF!

Optimist? Pessimist? Ha! The glass is neither half-full, nor half-empty.. merely twice as big as it needs to be. 😉

That being said and based on past performance, the project server(s) will likely die around Thursday at 8pm and be down until Monday around noon. And why? Because the project uptime is apparently of less importance to the people running it than most game servers are to the kids that run them.

How many times are you going to pimp DF in a D2OL thread?

I think just about everyone knows it by now dont you think?

I think no matter what happens you are either going to stick with it or go. No sense making everyone who chooses to stay feel ridiculed because of things out our control. I havent seen childish threads like this posted for other DC projects when things go sour, and I know for fact that this is but one of a number that have.

If you are giving up the project go do another, but dont kill others hopes that this one is salvagable... please..

I hear you John, and for each of my rigs that has still has(and is able to get) cands, I'll keep them on the project; but idle machines are a major bummer when you're paying for the electricity regardless of what they're doing or not doing as the case may be.

I respect that Rich, and I feel for all of you in this bind. 🙁 I have shut down all of mine but the main rig for the day. Im sure you have way too many to do that with. We are just between a rock and a hard place for the moment anyway.

mastertech01,

I actually started this thread as an attempt at a little humor towards a bad situation and an expression of frustration over the lack of communication from Sengent. I guess not all see it that way. Sorry to have offended you but I think those of us that are going to stick it out for a while longer need to lighten up a little and make a few jokes about it or else the fun is going to be gone faster than the stats server crashes.

Personally, I'm just waiting for the servers to come back up so that we can continue kicking the sh!t out of everyone else.

I'm a LONG way from hanging up on D2OL.

I'm with mastertech01 and daaavo... I'm currently running 17 on a couple of my machines that have run dry, but expect to continue D2OL as soon as they get the servers back up. I have a fear that the long weekend will be a problem and I won't be around to swap projects on my farm though 🙁

We need a hack to make a patch so we can load 500 candidates.. The primary difference that I see in this project is that so many are hitting the servers all the time, where other projects take forever to crunch one unit or seldomly hit their servers. If the project were as developed as SETI that probably wouldnt even be a problem. But even SETI takes hours to crunch one unit.
