D2OL - here's a stupid question...

Believe-it-or-not... I actually read the FAQ and looked for installation instructions first!

So.. I know of a certain 3 dual-proc boxen that could be turned into D2OL machines. I'm assuming I'll be running multiple instances? (since there is evidently no multi-proc/multi-threading capability?)

If I want two running at startup - would I perhaps do two installs?

I'm virtually certain one of you geeks has done this one. WindowsXP OS btw.

the only way ive been able to do it is install 2 instances in 2 different directories.

Yes that is the only way, a different install in a different folder for each processer

I'm a geek so I'll chime in. Do this:

Install once and don't set it to start on startup. Then rename that folder to "D2OL2" or something like that (you only have to rename the folder not the .exe) and then put a shortcut to the .exe in the startup folder. Then install the client a second time but tell it to start on startup and don't rename anything.

Works like a charm on my dual 1800+ box.

hmmm... check with Shame... I think you can use firedaemon to set up D2OL as a service, but it won't do it by itself.

I have it running as a service on 4 boxes at work using firedaemon and works fine that way but I don't have of any scripts that can do it. I would love it if there was.
You can do it using remote access if you have it enabled on the machines you want to do it on.

bty if you want both nodes to use the same id number just cancel the second install at the email screen and copy the node.prp file from the first install over to the same folder on the second install and restart the second install and they will both use the same node id #

I'm astonished that a client as well-done as this one doesn't include the ability to operate without intense installation acrobatics, in a multi-proc or multi-thread environment. That seems like a "no-brainer" to me.

They are working on a new version of the software and they have a thread on the d2ol forum asking what features us users would like it to have.

The problem, I believe, is that they are licensing the software and are not the actual developers...
