This post over at the D2OL forums by Geintje:

As written overall in the forum here :
The new client sucks !
- at least an memory load of 87 MB!
- freeze´s of clients
No word from Sengent WHY the client has to be so heavy ore what the changes where.

Al this resulted in the following:
DPC_LawnMooherMen are switching to another D.C. project. D2OL had come to an end for us.
100K is the mile stone we quit.

hmmmm...

Good news for us... catch up time will be shorter now... Maybe this weekend was a more of a boon for us than a bust.. :)

Happy crunching!

Seems like someone started giving them a run for their money and they decide to bail out:Q

Having looked at other project I wonder where they will go? SETI is the only other one that catches my interest. Two things I really like about D2OL is the (relativly) short time to complete a WU and the quick refresh of the stats. Like RC5 with a TeAm Proxy, you can watch you progress climb. Oh, I also like the daily ranking of contributors. OK, so I like the Stats! :)

Bye DPC_LawnMooherMen!

Too bad for the DPC, but I can definitely understand the frustration with the HUGE memory requirements of the new client.

In a way it's good news for us..

But not so great news for the project because it's losing more production.

It will be interesting to see how it all pans out..

I really don't blame them especially after this last weekend, and now the new client using more memory!

The only serious problem I have is with the bad candidates that cause the machines to spin their wheels.... I've had no lockups and the memory issue is not big for me since these are all dedicated crunchers. I echo what JWMiddleton said... especially the buh-bye part :)

Don't expect to gain too much by that announcement, considering TA's #2 producer will shortly be leaving as well, but for different reasons. TACO helped get the ball rolling here, but now things are well in hand and there are other TA projects that aren't as fortunate in their growth rate. It's been fun and we may visit again, but we hope that we don't have to!

Well I sure can understand there view point. I hope they get everything fixed before more people start to leave!

Not to worry MereMortal, I'll be picking up speed in the D2OL project soon enough. ;)

Oh, and as for folks bailing on a given project due to memory problems - I can see that; especially given the nature of the RC5 project, I'm sure there oodles of people with rigs with just 32 to 64 meg of ram, who cannot afford to upgrade all those machines for the D2OL projects requirements. CPU demands have increased too, which can be a real problem if you've got a large crackrack of older components. :(

Id rather spend 15.00 per rig for more memory than quit a great project personally. But we move on and grow!

Thanks for what time you have given us MereMortal. You gave us the initial surge we needed when the project was very sluggish, and for that we are forever indebted to you. Now that we have a lot of great support from many, and large node handlers other than you alone, we can pick up and charge forward.
Im increasing my heard by 2 or 3 and they arent exactly P1 class either.. they will do well along with the many new nodes we have picked up from many great new members. And with Networkman bolstering the team with new nodes and more to come our outlook is great! :)

Thanks to all who have joined and contributed to the TeAm, large and small. :D My hat is off to all of you!

Little help here, I have one machine that never got past Calculating Grid and has never completed a unit. Any ideas why?

MM is a part of TACO and they will be moving on to help out another project as they always do. So no big deal there and we wish them luck.

Are you running D2OL and SETI together on the same machine. I've found that if you start SETI before it gets past the calculating grid step then it often gets stuck on this set. Also SETI hurts the performance of D2OL pretty bad so I've decided to just do one or the other per machine.

I thought that D2OL maybe got stuck because SETI waas running when I installed D2OL so I shut SETI down on that machine a couple of days ago and still no unit out of the D2Ol client.

I had to do that today on one of mine... got stuck on conformer one... of course it chose not to do this till after I went to work and I lost 4 hours of crunching before I came home for lunch.
