D-link router dropping connection

I have a DI-524 wireless router that I'm running wired and wireless. I consistently loses both connections every 2 hours or so. Both PCs are running XP. (Tried it on other computers and the same thing) Tech support is no help.

Any ideas? Anyone experiencing similar problems.

Thanks for any help
John

Try updating the firmware if youre not running the newest one.

Also, does it drop randomly, or when under a heavy load? DOwnloading, gaming, etc?

Thanks for the reply. I updated the firmware but no luck. There seems to be no patten to the lose of connection. No gaming, downloads, etc. It will drop even when neither computer is in use.

Thanks
John

where the dlink is connected, then loses connection is there still power to the device, what lights are lit? do any lights blink? it connects again by itself ? or do you turn the device off and turn it back on again? how old is the router? is it still under warranty? have you tried to reset all of the settings to the default and redo your configuration? when you say that you lose both connections, do you mean you just cant get internet? or you cant even ping the router in the command prompt when the connection goes down? you can ping the router when the connection works though right? what are the response times of when it works vs. when it doesnt work?

When it loses connection it is still powered and the lights (status, WLAN) flash (the same as they do when its working fine). I use the router for internet. Its about 2 mo old and was replaced once for the same problem. Tech support changes settings but that's about it. The router was cheap ($30)

Thanks

I just had the same problem with a Netgear rounter and should be getting a replacement soon.
In the meantime, I bought a linksys router and it is working perfectly
