Stopped by Radio Shack as I needed a 10-15 gift for a secret santa gift (Laser Tool Set on RS's webpage went over great - $10 after coupon butI digress). When looking around the store I always check out the yellow tags - clearance/sale items. Came across a pair of Dlink Range Extender Antennas. Original price was $29.99, tagged at $19.99. I asked about them of course they don't know much (do they ever??). But when he pulled it up in the computer, they were $9.97 for the pair.

Stock number is 278-0845. Fit perfectly on my Dlink 802.11g card and access point. Signal went from "Good" to "Excellent". I'm in an apartment complex right now (new house closes on Jan 12th - yeah!) as I just moved to Virginia. I was seeing 2 other networks, now seeing 3. I used to somehow lose the network every so often. Used to be all the time when the card was a linksys, but after switching to a dlink card that matches the ap that all but stopped. Haven't had a drop in days now. Hopefully that's over. Don't know what others that I may be interfering with them now think, but I put my apartment number if they want to come talk to me...

Edit - not on RS website. Similar to these http://www.radioshack.com/prod...p;product%5Fid=278-844 but for D-Link instead of Linksys

Didn't see Linksys antennas at the store I was at. But then I wasn't really looking for them either.

Unless it's on the way, or you just like stopping by there, I'd call and see if they have them. They can also check the computer and see which stores around there have any. They might not want to do it, but ask firmly it doesn't take them but a minute or 2.

I'm not crapping, but these have been on clearance for several months now. However, most stores near me did not even have them marked down on the shelf. You have to bring them to the register and they ring up at $9.97.

Stores around here did not have a clearance price for the linksys antenna, just the D-Links.

How messy is it to mod my netgear for this? It looks like my antenna doesn't even come off on the 814v2.
Thanks for any info.

Thanks for the tip. I just picked up 2 packs of these at one of the RadioShack's in Toledo, OH. I've been looking around for deals on antennas for my D-Link router and wifi cards.

I was wondering the same thing...I have a netgear mr814 as well and have been seeing the price of DLink antennas drop.

I did however find this website: link

I got the antenna for my DI-624 router...it only has one antenna....

Signal strength read from my two laptops went up about %10-15, so for $10, I'm happy.

thanks op! will check it out today. I have a $10 gift certificate buning a hole through my wallet, and radio shack never has anything good! The thing about the shack though, usually their clearance is company-wide. Usually if I find a clearance item in one store I can find it at all the other stores for the same price. And if they don't have it in one store, their computer will tell me which store near me does have it.

to the guy who used it on the 624 router, is that the extreme g router? does it work in that extreme g mode to extend the range of the 108mbs transfer? that's what I have, I wanna try it. I also have the wireless pci card on my desktop, will this antenna work on it too?

thanks again op!

Checked out one RS near me , and they did not have it. I'm going to look around at the others in town to see if they have them.

I went to my local radio shack, and it is one of those smaller ones I would NOT normally go. Anyway, they had 2 sets left. I bought both. I went to another one 2 miles down the road, one of those places I WOULD normally go, and they didn't have any. Go figure.

It is actually in a RadioShack packaging with 2 longer than factory antennas inside. It confused me at first, because I was looking for D-Link packaging! It has plastic top/covering so you can't miss it if it's there. There are two types: The one being talked about here says it is "Desined for use with D-Link..." (in small write up); the other says it is for Linksys or Belkin. That one is still $29.99. The Big writing says "2.4GHz Routher Range-Extender Antenna" On the top left, it should say 278-845 (this is the item number). Hope that helps.

I used one antenna for the D-Link g router, and used the other antenna for my pci g-card. It is the microsoft g card that was purchased through here from CompUSA for $15 without rebate a while back. It fits! Now my signal went from 18~24 (not good - good) to 36~54 (good -very good). Right now, as I'm typing this, it is at 54 Mbps (good). My g router is 524 or 624 model, and its review by PC Magazine (I think) noted the not-so-great speed, hovering around 24. Sooo, I'm really psyched about my purchase.

Anybody that got the deal know if the connectors are TNC or SMA? If SMA, did they happen to include a TNC adapter? I'd like to use these on a Linksys WRT54G with reverse TNC connectors. TIA!
