I think the PCI 10/100 NIC card most people say handles overclocking the PCI bus the best is the Linksys. (?) Is the D-Link as good? Which chipsets do they use?

It's hard to say unless you actually try it out. Either way, try getting a recent card. I'd much rather get an Intel 10/100 Management card than a cheapie Linksys or D-Link, which uses those cheap RealTek chipsets.

I've been able to overclock my system up to 160mhz and my Intel NIC still works fine.

My secondary system has a D-Link DFE-530TX and runs fine at 44MHz PCI. Unfortunately it's one of the only cards in there that runs stably at 44MHz so it's at 41MHz. It's a great NIC, runs just as fast and solid as my 3Com NIC which I paid triple the price for.

Cool, the D-Link DFE-530TX is what I have. Free after rebate at BB awhile back. :)
They had the Linksys for $5 after MIR recently

If anyone takes the time to read todays AnandTech review of the $7000+ "Dream Machine" they will notice that in the no price limit for this build they chose the LinkSys as their NIC card, and made the statement of ' no problems in over 2 years of using them.
Who's gonna argue with that? Under $20 and sometimes you find them at shops with rebates. I paid $ 4.99 for my last one.

Hold phaser fire, oh, what the heck,
lets just shoot everything.

FYI, from what I've been able to find, the D-Link DFE530TX+ does use the Realtek 8139A, but the older DFE530TX (w/out the +) uses a VIA chipset.
The Linksys LNE100TX has about 5 different revisions w/ different chipsets. I can't find what the newer ones use. They're still $5 at BB after MIR.

People saying get a 3com or Intel (or Linksys) but seems several peeps have no problems o'cing their Dlink.

Just want to give my 1.5 cents about the Linksys NIC's: I've had good oc'ing results with the LNE100TX (one is a very old version while the other is more recent). However, I also found that the cheaper NC-100 model cannot overclock at all.
