D-Link Systems HD Media Router 1000 w/ 4 GB Ethernet Ports, SD Card Slot & USB!

Is it just me or is this a smoking deal? I don't even need one (have the Asus Dark Knight) but I want to pick 1 up anyway.

Can plug in a usb drive and stream over the network, has a SD slot... can use it as a gigabit switch... seems like a great deal.

Is isnt the fastest since it is single band but nice backup, portable, etc?

I picked 1 up because it just looks too cool to be able to use it for USB steaming, backup, etc... and if all it does is act as a GB switch, I'm cool with that too. I am thinking about dd-wrt or something and at this price I don't have to worry about bricking it.

I'm sure it never sold a single unit for $149 which is the MSRP, but at $20 I think it was too good to pass up.

It's been on sale a few times for $20. For what was supposed to be a high-end router to be this cheap is a tell-tale sign of pretty significant issues and that D-Link has given up on it. The hope is 3rd party firmware can cure its woes.

The Belkin gigabit routers despite not being as "cool" got a lot more attention when it was selling for ~$20 because it was a good router after loading DD-WRT or Tomato. I haven't seen similar buzz with this D-link model though....unfortunately. Would love to have this one with Tomato loaded.
