d-link extreme PCI card gets low signal strength

I have a comp with a d-link extreme-g pci card and a machine with a d-link extreme-g pcmcia card very close to each other. the pci one says it has "low signal strength", so low that it barely gets any packets through, but the pcmcia one has "excellent" signal strength
