DWL-g120 will not install, installshield problems

I insert the cd, and get an error message
Unhandled Exception
Error # 0X80040706
Object reference not set.
Setup will now terminate

It will NOT install on my Compaq 6000z AMD 2200+ XP sp2
But WILL install on my Toshiba Celeron 1.5 laptop XP sp2

I downloaded from the d-link site also, it also give me the same mesage

Help me install this on my desktop....
Possible to transfer from my laptop to desktop?

above link says I need to update??
How could I be NOT up to date??
I would hate to screw up all my future installs
help....thanks
