D-Link stopped using the prism2 chipset in the DWL-650 a long time ago. This model went for $10-20 AR back in the days.

I got the DWL-G650 as part of a package... not very impressed with this card. Utilities are horrible, driver is fairly stable. (Yes I know this is a 802.11g product....but it's an indication of the 802.11b product which uses same driver matrix).

Orinoco or Symbol are much better.....IMHO

The Orinoco Gold 802.11b (or dell true mobile) is about the best 802.11b PC card..... we use them at work almost exclusively....all other types like 3com, netgear, symbol, dlink, etc just don't have the stability and signal strength that Orinoco has.

My $.02

no, op is right. this card does use the prism chip set, the best chipset for doing certain kinds stuff..whats even cooler is that i get paid for doing that kinda stuff at work :) (those in the know know what kinda stuff the op and i are referring to)

It is the new 802.11a, b/g cards that generally use a diferent (Atheros) chipset... it is very difficult to find a A or G card that doesnt use it... Netgear, Linksys, Orinoco, Nortel, SMC, i can go on and on.

Like I said before, D-Link stopped using the prism2 chipset in the DWL-650 a long time ago. The DWL-650 has used at least 4 different chipsets, with the Prism being the first one.
