D-Link DI-624 & DWL-2100AP not talking

I wanted to get a wireless signal upstairs, so I bought the DWL-2100AP to set up as a repeater. My wireless card can't seem to pick up the 2100 at all. I still get zero reception at the client. I've set up the network similar to the way this website suggested. The only thing I think I need to do is directly attach the repeater to the router, but I always thought that all a repeater does is repeat the signal of the router. I've verified that both the repeater, client and router are on the same channel, so that's not it.
Any help is appreciated.
