I already have a 614+. If I get another one, can I use it as a repeater/extender? I currently have my 614+ on the second floor of my house and I'm trying to get to the basement, only there is a concrete wall that seems to be affecting the connection.

I do not see why not, not any different then setting up a wireless network.

As far as I know, you can't use this router as a wireless bridge/repeater. It will need a wired connection to some point in your network, at which point it becomes a wireless access point just like any other. Other products like the 900AP+ will work in this mode, but I'm pretty sure the 614+ will not, even with another 614+.

Only the 800+ or 900+ can act as repeaters. I have the 800+ and am using it wuth a netgear wireless router to extend the range. The range on the 800 is not that great but it does do what it's supposed to.

With all that said, I had a 514 for about 3 days, went from not picking up an IP address right out of the box to just not plain working by day 3. Read up on it at DSLReports forums and I think you will see it's not a reliable router.

In other wirds, you get what you pay for. ( I recomend the Netgear 814v2 and you can usually find it for about $25 AR on several sites).

Yeah, the 514 is a poor product. The 614 however, rocks :) And that is true, you can not use a router as a repeater or a bridge. Won't work.

Just to present an opposing opinion, I've been using my DI-514 for several months now and it has performed flawlessly. I've opened several ports to the Internet and am serviing www, DNS, FTP, SMTP, and POP3. The router itself has worked beautifully.

noggin...I agree, there has to be some working models out there or it wouldn't be on the market at all. I've just read more bad reviews than good ones on it, so I go with the majority. Glad yours works. ;)

incorrect, you can use some routers as repeaters/bridges. my linksys does this.
