If you want need more ports or if your older case doesn't have front mounted USB ports this is a hell of a deal.

D-Link #DUB-H7. 7 port USB-2.0 Powered Hub
$7.00

CAT# USB-71U

You can connect it to a standard power connector in your machine or use a wall wart. Be sure it has the right connector and polarity and delivers 5 volts at 3.0 amps minimum (D-Link spec). The USB spec is 500 mA (0.5 amps) per port so 3.5 amps is better. They have this one:

5VDC 3.7A SWITCHING POWER SUPPLY
$4.75

CAT# PS-537

It connects with this kind of cable:

6' USB A-B CABLE, 2.0 HIGH-SPEED
$2.50

CAT# CB-347

If you live in or near Van Nuys, Ca., All Electronics (Oxnard west of Kester in Van Nuys) has a B&M store:

Their catalog items can be ordered online. Of course, you'll pay shipping.

Order online by catalog ID #, or

While you're on their site, check 'em out. They have a wide variety of wall warts, USB and other cables and a lot of other stuff at great prices because they buy a lot of closeout items and large lots of overproduction. For example, these hubs are listed as used. The two I bought look new to me. 😎

Keep in mind that there is a minimum $7 S&H cost for people who can't pick it up locally. So it would be at least $21.25 to get a "used" version of the full retail version (that would be with the AC adapter, USB cable, and S&H.)

You can get this, new, for $23.99 shipped at Buy.com.

I think the real deal here is for people that already have the cable and/or an AC adapter, or can pick it up locally to avoid the S&H. $7 for just the hub is pretty nice. But I'd probably pay an extra couple bucks to get the full retail package with OEM accessories if I needed it all.

You're right that this deal is best for those who can take advantage of local pickup. I already had the cable so I was out the door for $11.75 + tax. $2.50 more for the cable wouldn't have killed the deal.

As noted, the two I bought look new with no scratches or other visible damage. 🙂
