Hello all,

I just moved into a new house and my office is in a detached garage while my wife's office is in the house. My router is in my office and the signal has degraded quite a bit and my wife has been complaining that the connection is slow and sometimes it drops out.

Now to my question: Is it possible to obtain another router (the same) and use that as a "repeater" to strengthen the signal to my wife's office? I noticed that a wireless repeater is more expensive than the 614+ router so it would be a more cost-effective solution if I can use the router.

I appreciate your help. Thanks.

I bought a second wireless router (D-Link 614+) today and now I'm trying to set it up.

First thing I did was change the DHCP server range from 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.100. I set the second router's IP address to 192.168.0.101. I assume this is the correct way to do it. I also made sure that the SSID and channel were the same.

So far I haven't been able to successfully get these two to connect. Any ideas? Thanks.

Once you have the base address of the second router moved out of the DHCP range of the first router, run a wire from one of the LAN ports on the first router to one of the LAN ports on the second router. Leave the WAN port open. Disable DHCP server on the second router. You can then set the channel to a different channel than the first router to avoid conflicts, and configure your wireless stations to connect to any available network.
