Hi,

I've searched and read a few old threads. I'm wondering if some D-Link 343 NAS owners can chime in on their experiences with the unit? I'm interested in real world speed experience and any quirks/firmware issues people have encountered.

I want to buy a 4-bay NAS with 2TB HD's for a 6TB RAID5 array. This will be accessed by my desktop (Win7 Pro soon), a media extender (WDTV HD Live or Popcorn Hour probably), and a couple notebooks. Mainly it will be used to stream media to the other devices (.mkv HD movies, DVD images, mp3s, pictures etc). I plan to get a gigabit/draft-N router and have everything wired. So overall, it will be light use, as long as it can stream 1080p mkv I'm not too concerned about speed. I've read the unit has mediocere I/O performance, so expecting 20-30mbyte/s. I already have a 1TB eSATA/USB external to back-up vital stuff with.

I like the idea of a WHS box and the way it handles storage (and other features), but with the D-Link at $450CAN and such a smaller package it's hard to justify. The other thing with WHS I've seen most of the pre-built machines are 2-bay. I don't really want another mini tower around to house 4+ drives.

Thanks
