Having ordered from NY in an attempt to save on deposit, I found the cans are not shipped from NY stores and have no deposit on them anyways so I could not return them for additional cash back.

Also, there is a rumored 25 off 50 at office depot coming soon, for next thurs...not sure if this is true or not.

Pricing on the two major soft drink product lines vary throughout the United States. Remember, producing and selling either Coke or Pepsi to the end user involve three parties. Producing is usually done by local bottlers who pay for this right. Putting the name out to the public and probably alot of marketing fall upon the company. Finally, vendors, who sell the package products, are similiar to gas stations owners, all sell at about the same price or try to push the product out the door quickly.

IMHO, the following are reasons that effect what consumers pay. These are not in any particular order.

1. The cost of sugar and/or other sweetners.
2. The cost of labor. Having Teamsters restock displays and shelves at local supermarkets in my area, has to be added into the price.
3. Does the retailer want to draw customers into the store with a bargain? The idea behind loss leaders are get the consumers in the door and hope they remember to buy other things.
4. The value and cost of space and visibilty to the consumers. It starts from being on page one of the weekly store ad, to end caps and lots of shelving in the market, and finally, agreeing to pay for unofficial help. Again, these increases are past on.
5. For the cost to produce, transport, and sell either brand, an average person would assume the price could be cut in half and everyone would make money. But like Kellogg cereals, big money goes into convincing the public to choose my products over both the other other guy and cheap brands. Two weeks ago, a local grocery chain has Vess, distant third in sales, on sale with three two liters bottles for a buck.
6. Finally, although both Coke and Pepsi, each with a loyal base, sell billions annually, occasionally they will fight in a market just to pick up a point or two on the other guy. A win win situation for the consumers until normality returns.

I don't want to step on anyone toes with how better is my bargain on Pepsi. For me, I may from time to time catch Pepsi on sale. While at the store, I will buy other necessary items.

Not to date my old tire a$$. When I grew up, both soda and beer was packaged and sold in bottles, until throwaways became the status quo. One paid a deposit on each bottle and upon return of bottles got back money. My early memory was two cents and then a nickel, and finally a dime per bottle with an extra fee for the box that held 24 bottles.

The smallest packaging was a cardboard holder that held six bottles and later both Pepsi and Coke came out with a cardholder for eight 16 oz. bottle. The next size package up was for 24 bottles. If you told someone to get a case of beer, then he or she grabbed a heavy cardboard box that had two lids that flipped outward and held 24 bottles. Go to a local bar and if they sell bottled beer, then you probably find the same type case. Way back when, the term case in regard to soda could refer to a wooden box that was constructed to hold 24 bottles in seperate holes or a wooden holder that one could place four six packs inside. The latter was required in order to stack the product. One mainly saw the former at places like the local gas stations, most had a machine that sold 10 oz. bottles of pop.

Back when I was a juvenile, my friend and I would roam the local neighborhoods at night for bottles left on the back steps or the patio. Finding and cashing in a few six or eight packs helped pay for our cigarettes and beer.

You guys missed a truely KILLER DEAL recently. Albertson's B&M was selling 3 2 liters for $1, limit 3 per person.

Considering 6 cans = 2 liter, that's 18 cans = 6 liters = $1. So that's about $5.67 for 17 liters or 2.7 cents per can! if you got in on that Albertson's deal which was only December 14-15 here locally (Portland, Oregon).

I now have enough Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, Mt Dew and Sierra Mist to last me at least a year.

Not to crap on a good price, but I hate the way two-liters go flat in a day or two no matter how tight you put the lids on. As if Pepsi crap isn't flat enough already? I only buy those for gatherings or other instances when it is all going to be used up in a couple hours. If I'm going to buy enough sodas to last six months I'm definitely going for the cans.

For me, the total for each 12 pack is only $1.50 since there is a .05 bottle deposit here in Iowa. I really can't beat that for delivery to my garage door :)

umm....

a case has always been a case as far as alcholic beverages go,
hence the refrence to frat guys making the cube into a case.

frat guys = beer

That's about all they're good for in my opinion.

Lol,
I'm not that old and I remember the good old days when pop came in bottles. I loved it! I wish they would bring it back. That was cool to crack open a chilled bottle. :D I know they make them still, Britney Spears sucks on one in her pepsi commercial. Must be a celebrity item only now? :)

They have Coke in bottles at my local target. I think it's just a holiday thing, though.

Hmmm $38.88 for 17 cases.
Each case holds 12 cans.
It takes approx 24 cans to equal 1lb. of aluminum.
Recycle the cans and get about $0.80/lb. or 8.5*$0.80 = $6.80 cash back.
SO

$38.88
- 6.80 Recycle savings.
$32.08 Actual cost.

That makes it $1.89 per 12 pack.
$0.16 per can.

But then there is the drive to the recycle center at about $1.00/gallon of gas.
Maybe the $30/$100 coupon would be better for this deal. :)

I dunno about you guys, but I just buy my Mt Dew from HEB for $2 a case... so this doesn't really seem like that great of a deal to me *shrugs*

Of course $2 isn't the normal price, I think like $2.78 is the normal price, but they go on sale about once a month, and I just stock up then. :)

they have something called delivery circles or some crap. I tried my school address and I was charged shipping, and when i changed to my home address no shipping. It might have something to do with you being close to an officedepot or something. I'm not sure.
