Hello,
i just wanted to tested CF or SD adapter to IDE with my retro gaming machine, with Asrock Conroe865PE board and Core E6600 and 4 GB Ram.

Im using some 30 MB/s 8GB SD card nothing fancy, but its fine.

I didnt expected problems, so i just bough adapters from ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Practical-SD...oAAOSwImRYYHxC

and
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Compact-Flas...72.m2749.l2649
+
http://www.ebay.com/itm/High-Speed-S...72.m2749.l2649

Experience with both is almost same, there are really slow, but i the strange way, regarding of Atto benchmark transfer speed is fine - 30 MB/s but there long pauses - mouse cursor is working, but Atto test which is just for few minutes, took much more.

I have installed XP, it took 4-5 hours, i dont have other IDE board to test it, i wonder if is problem with MB incompatibility or with adapters?

Did you met such crappy adapters which could do this, or its Asrock bios? I already had some issues with their IDE and Sata implementation, that is why i have even started to consider these adapters..

I'll put money on the adapters and the cards being crappy. But on top that it could be also BIOS issues as well.

While a bit more expensive, I'd suggest a small 16-32GB SSD with a proper SATA interface.

Also IDE mode can cut performance vs AHCI mode. But to use AHCI mode on XP you either have to slipstream drivers, or do a workaround after install.

Could you point me exact models with reasonable US shipment price? Its as shame that best things are available only in US and shipment money are really unreasonable

I mean it for Windows 98 and old Macs or Amigas, so IDE is needed.

I have check adapters with 2 more MB, they are crapp.. So if not Sata disk, some really good IDE to memory card adapter would be good too.

Im not american too, i meant shipment price from to US to Europe. Usually good shipping price for central europe has only UK and Asia (but they speciallized in maybe somehow working crapp at least for 95% of ebay available items, i hate their communistic mentality.. ).
Lastime i checke Newegg and Tiger i got no europe fuck off response..

Just get a pata ssd and call it a day. Even a fast USB 2.0 flash drive is a better choice than sd card.

They make pata ssd drives? Huh.

I wonder if the make sata drive to ide interface adapters. Probably, but I've only seen/used the other way around.
