D.C. police use high-risk stings in battle against armed robberies

This is a very lengthy article so I am not going to cut and paste. The long and short of it is that the police create the crime, they set up in bad neighborhoods and target certain people of color and who have already committed crimes in the past and give them guns, get away cars and pretend to have a place to rob or a set up for them. They push them along, and coax them to do the deed basically and give them everything they need to do it. Then if these folks take the bait, they bust them. It is now coming to light that this is very much entrapment and targeting poor people, people of color in poor neighborhoods. Instead of creating the crime for them to fall into why not create a helping hand an opportunity to turn their life around? I guess we have to keep those prisons full don't we? Got to keep those cops employed..huh?
This kind of thing turns my stomach and I think it clearly crosses the line.
Quote: "Defense attorneys and some legal experts have asked whether the police should be encouraging people to commit crimes they might not have otherwise committed by providing invented opportunities and, in some cases, guns and getaway cars.
Critics ask how law enforcement officials can distinguish between someone who is just puffing and someone who intends to carry out a crime"
"Instead of waiting for suspects to act, police are essentially bringing robbery opportunities, albeit fake ones, to them"
