I live about 30 miles from D.C. and after hearing about those recent threats on the news I am a bit worried about going to events there. Im sure there will be plenty of security today at that Memorial thing or whatever is going on but what Im most concerned about is the Metro. When I was last on it there wasnt a cop or video camera in sight. The Metro isnt that big of a target but if they are going to attack trains in Spain then why not here? If anything were to be the next easy target I would highly suspect the D.C. Metro to be it. Please share your thoughts and dont get angry.

Im down to die, I just dont want to see my family die. I dont get sad when I think of myself dying only when I see or hear about innocent people dying, mostly children because there are a lot of assholes in the world.

Is that why there are so many casualties in the Army rather than the Marines. Thats not the situation now because its mostly the Marines in Iraq.

And the people all smell like burning? Lol, WTF does that mean? Only thing I hate is the damn humidity and the traffic. Even after a nice rain shower it still feels like sh*t outside.

Dude, death is going to happen. Obviously the goal is to come out alive, and you stay aware of your surroundings but actually worrying about dying doesn't do anything except stain your underpants.

Now I really cant say anything, because I've not been in "action" yet. But for everyday normal life in the US, I'd bet my life savings that your family wont be the victims of a terrorist act. The odds are stacked against it. Dont you realize that "terror"ists only win when their victims are terrorized. Well fvck that, nobody is going to terrorize me.

Also, the Army and Marines have high casualties in conflicts because we're the feet on the ground, doing patrols, checkpoints, raids, and mostly the ones getting ambushed. I mean, how many Navy casualties do you expect when 99% of the deployed Navy is on a ship (not bashing the Navy by the way, we all know every branch does their job).

I wanted to be a Marine since I was 13 so I know the way you feel. I have never been afraid of death and if I have to die then I would like it to be for a good cause which is why I think I would have been a great soldier. I feel its too late for me to join up but my deepest respect goes out to you and all the troops serving us "civilians".

Hehe, its never to late to join.. untill your 35 of course. You'd be suprised that several ~30 year olds still join. There were 3 guys at least 29 in my training company. Sure, thats only 1.5% but still. People do it.

Steady pay, housing, food, medical, life insurance, quick promotions, weapons training :) :) Free schooling both military and civilian. Hundreds of non combat jobs too.

Plus you get to meet interesting and stimulating people of an ancient culture... and kill them.

Theres plenty of jobs that wouldn't require you to meet or kill anyone. And 99% of the time with ground forces its kill or be killed.

Well it just has a sense of pride to it. That's what people think of when they think of a soldier. A man with a rifle, shooting other men with rifles.

well luckily you dont get an absolute guarantee of jobs with the marines! lucky you! thats a HUGE selling point of the Army. I have no problem with Infantry, and they are not "grunts" at all. If I ever go officer, I'd request infantry for sure.

Kinda like a sport. But ya not to sound sick or anything even though I understand all of the pain and suffering each soldier on both sides goes through because Ive seen tons of sick sh*t and done enough drugs to get in touch with my emotions, I think it would be kind of fun to go into battle. Ive always wanted to be in that sort of action and everytime I see soldiers on the news or something I always think to myself how lucky they are to be living my dream. Its sick I know but everyone has their dreams.

I think all the WWII vets would whip out their Garands and take care of those terrorists!

They're making new ones again I believe. And they have some fresh out storage at a lot of places for under $1000 I believe.
