Welcome aboard GeoffS and BitSpit! Don't hesitate to ask any of the members of the D²OL TeAm if you have any questions about how the client runs.

Thanks! Hoped I could slip in unnoticed! :) Seems to be chugging along nicely on a single PC at the moment... What should I be looking for as a benchmark for how well it is running?

My 1800+ averages about 23 minutes per candidate but it can varry quite a bit sometimes. My P3 500 averages about 1.5 hours per candidate.

Cool.. When installing on multiple machines, how do I direct all statistics to a single user (me)? Does it go by node or email address?

No questions yet. Just painfully slow to install and configure over VNC even though it is a 100Mbit LAN. I also noticed the page doesn't mention the client supporting Win95 but it seems to run just fine (did have to reboot first to get it to install properly). And as I type this my first candidate was just completed.

You enter the email address into each node. Then you go to the website and sign in. Once at your homepage there is a link to claim any nodes that have been assigned your email address. It is a pain since if you uninstall and reinstall the software you have to register a new node making the node stats all sloppy. It is something that they say they are working on.

Welcome to the D2OL team GeoffS and BitSpit. No one slips by this crew unnoticed ;)

You join at a good time as we are about to stomp our way to #14 :D (should happen sometime tonight.)

I see baldy already answered all your questions, but if you have any more...ask him again ;)

And talking about benchmarks, my 700 mhz takes about 40 min and my 400 mhz work comp takes about 1.5 hrs.

How about optimizing... does more detail slow it down at all? What are the optimal settings?

It should run faster without the main window open. Also there is a readme file that explains how to run it 3 different ways (java, CLI, file based). I'm not sure if one is faster then another or not I haven't had time to try them. Also I've been trying to find time to work on a service install for Windows 98. Jay has modified a SETI service install to work with Windows 2k/XP which I found on the D²OL forum.

definately run the client in the taskbar... it does slow it down if you keep the window open. There is a good program, Dspy that lets you keep track of how the client is running...don't have the link on my work computer.

Baldy or Mastertech could tell you more about it though, they both seem to be playing around with it, haven't had the chance myself.

Dspy can let you view the progress of up to 10 computers over a network. It does a pretty good job except if the client stops running it will just stop updating but you won't really be able to tell that the client has stopped.

Am I reading that right Geoffs, you have 9 nodes already?!:Q

I hear that to run it on a dually you have to install it twice into two different directories and then rename one of the executables.

Yep! Renamed the first level directory and the executable, reinstalled, and now I'm hammering both CPUs! :)

We are 10000 Cands from 13th, which with the added 30 nodes today may not be a long time at all... :)

Yes, California Redwoods are sitting ducks... they will go down tonite. I think we could with about 20 more nodes take maybe 8th place by the end of the month... everybody working hard.. :)
