My roomate has a Cyrix-233 mini-tower that restarts itself and then refuses to start up, just makes the POST beep over and over again until you shut it down completely.

I'm not entirely sure, but I've seen Cyrix chips have heat related problems and I'm wondering if you guys think this could be a heat related problem.

Heat would be definetly an issue, may be a frozen fan or clogged vent, but only if you had the system up and running from 5 to 10 mins. it would probably give you errors and BSODs before shutting down or rebooting, and then if you tried to restart it again without giving it time to cool down it would give you the problem you're describing, so I would rule out that as the source of your problem if you're able to boot first. Sounds more like bad memory or some other internal component not working. Strip down the computer from expansion cards but video card, and start your way up troubleshoting components. Could be as simple as something loose.
Hope that helps.
