cygwin/SSH remote display ports

figured out my problem was with the ports. should be able to find this by digging, but since i can't delete my message entirely:

anyone know which ports I need to forward on my local router to get X11 forwarding to work?

X displays normally start at port 6000 and increment by 1 for every display. But you also have to enable the network portion of the X server, which is disabled in most distributions these days and you most definitely should not be forwarding straight X over the Internet.
