Other than flashbacks and alternate realities, she was absent from regular publication for most of the 1990s, though does appear as a time-traveler in New Mutants: Truth or Death #1-3 (1997). After being resurrected by Belasco, she returned to regular publication in 2007, in New X-Men #38-41 (2007), X-Infernus #1-4 (2009), X-Men: Hellbound #1-10 (2010) and New Mutants (vol. 3) #1-29 (2009-2011). As a member of Cyclops' Extinction Team, she appears in Uncanny X-Men (vol. 2) #1-20 (2012), Avengers vs. X-Men #1-12 (2012), AVX: Versus #3 (2012), and AVX: Consequences #1-5 (2012). She appears in All-New X-Men and Uncanny X-Men (vol. 3) as a regular character.
FYI, I have zero interest in comics, I Googled both answers.

One of the nice things about the Ultimate comics were permanent consequences...at least until they went overboard and killed half the cast in trivial ways.

because she created two children out of magic (magic is her mutant power) and they were taken away from her (not sure on the details). She then attacks the Avengers and kills Hawkeye and some others,...
This is covered in Avengers Disassembled.
Scarlet Witch is then taken to Genosha, where she is being "treated"/contained by Magneto & Xavier. A slew of super heroes go to Genosha to confront and possibly kill the Scarlet Witch. She then
creates a fantasy world, out of magic, where this team of super heroes (and Magneto & Xavier) get whatever they want. Wolverine remembers everything about his past,... as well as that this is all an illusion. He is the key to unraveling this fantasy world. And, it's unwravelled, by his leading efforts. BTW, Spiderman is married to Gwen Stacy and they have 2 kids. And some other wishes are fulfilled for the rest of the heroes
. Scarlet Witch is confronted and she utters the words; No more mutants. As a result, 99% of the world's mutant population loses their mutant abilities. This is covered in the House of M.
The question then becomes, where did all this energy go? There are only 300 mutants left on Earth. And, they deem themselves on the verge of extinction. As the 300 band together and figure out what to do, Cable is seen jumping around time with a red haired girl called Hope. I do not know the origin or what kicked this off,... but, she is the Savior of Mutantkind.
At some point, Hope is fully grown (as a result of all the time jumping). And the story of Avengers VS X-Men kicks off. The large mass of mutant engery that was expelled when Scarlet Witch said No more mutants, attracted the Pheonix.
On it's way, it's destroying plants, etc. And, the Avengers spring into action to secure Hope,.. since they are assuming it's coming after her. The X-Men and Avengers battle (because each side thinks they know they can protect her and Earth from the Pheonix), while Ironman tries to figure out how to stop the Pheonix.
As the X-Men and Avengers are duking it out, the Pheonix arrives, and
Ironman shoots the sucker with some wacky armor/weapon, that splits it into 5 streams,...
and you get the picture you just posted.
These 5 rule the world and make everything "better" (and I thinks because
the split Pheonix and the mass of mutant energy (which is shown just hovering in space, over Earth is used to create free energy, cure sickness, etc))
. Anyway, something goes wrong at some point. And, each memeber start attacking one another. Eventually,
Cyclops is the one remaining, who has now absorbed the Pheonix portion of the other 4,.. and he kills Professor X. Scarlet Witch AND Hope (who can copy and amplify any mutant power) kick Dark Pheonix Scott's ass,... and Scott Summers is placed under arrest.
So, yeah,.. you missed out on a load of CRAP. Luck you.
EDIT: Oh, and the
Pheonix is defeated when Hope says; No more Pheonix,... which brings back mutant powers,... yeah,.. it was a pretty shitty climax to all of this,...
I don't know how anyone could keep track of all this. However, I'm not usually disappointed by whatever happens in comic book movies because I don't read the comics and I already know they won't be very good.
Comixology has .99 cent sales every Friday and Monday (some on holidays) and I pick them up then. I refuse to pay $3.99 per issue for this shit AND have it take up physical space.
