Cyclists, do you prefer an automatic transmission to that of a manual transmission?

I by no means speak for all cyclists out there, but from my experience I find the benefits of an automatic transmission to be beneficial in many ways. If you?re a professional pedaller then you know that looking down at your hand and then through your legs to examine the gears to be a daunting process. It can also turn deadly shifting while an inattentive leg pumper decides to cut you off on the bike path. An automatic transmission not only gives you the freedom to hold a cell phone, but allows you to focus your eyes on the road ahead. Some purists would say that an automatic transmission is for weak minded plebes and that using a manual transmission guarantees a more pleasurable pedalling adventure. I pose the following question in all seriousness. Which type of transmission do you prefer to use on your bicycle?

Is this a bad parody or a demonstration of the effects of eating lead paint chips as a child?

Are you kidding? Manual keeps you much more alert while riding. With an automatic you lose touch with the state of your bike, and it's probably easier to zone out as well. On a manual bike, you are force to stay aware of you surrounding, therefore, you become a better biker.

That isn't the point. You inability to effectively communicate what the eff you are talking about is the issue here.

actually, there ARE automatic transmissions for bicycles (one works like a CVT car transmission)

the true analogue to bicycle manual is Fixed gear - where technically it has 1 gear - but the bike does not coast and the rider can control decelleration without usign the brakes

and i do prefer fixed gear, so i do prefer "manual" on a bicycle

My inabilities are not the topic of discussion here.

If I cared about that I wouldn't have made this thread.

Good point, but we don't always get what we ask for...
