Cyclist: what do you think of this?

Bike Protests in Berkeley

This actually kind of pisses me off. Unless this is an organized ride with the public aware of the situation, I say this is just adding fuel to the fire. But I understand the point they are trying to get across.

We have a ride similar to this called the Midnight Ramble in Houston. It only happens once a year. Police are involved in keeping it in order, and the public is notified. It is a way of raising money for bike lanes (since no real funding ever comes from the government.

Thoughts?

Somebody is eventually going to get hurt and it wont be a cyclist. If they want to be respected, they have to show respect for traffic rules like everybody else.

Next up:
Joggers do a critical mass event on the bike paths to MAKE bicyclists share the paths.

Then:
Walkers do a critical mass event on the sidewalks to MAKE joggers share the sidewalk.

Didn't someone do a rant a while ago complaining about pedestrians on the bike paths going too slow and not moving out of the way? And why do joggers jog in the streets when there's a sidewalk two feet to the right or left?

 sure they did. Ummm the main difference is that it is the illegal and dangerous for bikers to ride on sidewalks. I have never had a problem with runners running on a bike path. It is called common courtesy.
