I am trying to install a fresh copy of Windows XP Edition K on my computer. It is a legal copy downloaded from Microsoft and burnt to a disc.

The hard drive is partitioned into 2 equal parts.

I boot my computer with the CD and go through the process of it loading drivers and it asking me to pick a partition to install it on.

I pick the empty partition, and installation files are loaded off the CD on to the hard drive.

The computer restarts and windows xp loading screen comes up, and eventually the windows installation progress screen comes up and starts going to town.

After about 30 seconds I get a 'Cyclical Redundancy Check Error'. Only option is to reboot the computer. Process repeats.

I tried burning another copy of the CD thinking maybe it was damaged. No luck.
I tried repartitioning the entire hard drive (took 3 hours) and still the same error came up.

I am at a loss at what to do here. Any help would be appreciated.

The CD could still be bad. Did you check the MD5 hash of the ISO and compare it to what MS said it should be? Once you have verified that the ISO is correct, verify the CD's MD5 as well. They should be identical, if not your disc isn't being burned properly. You could try slowing down the burn speed a bit or a different brand of recordable discs too if you can determine it's the actual CD's fault.

Also, try swapping IDE/SATA cables on the drive too.
