Cyclic Redundancy Error with hard drive

So I got a new SATA 300gb Seagate today and im in the process of transferring some of my files to it. So far out of 150gb or so Ive gotten 3 files with Cyclic Redundancy errors. They just wont let me transfer them. What would be the cause of this? Are one of the drives bad? Thought this really only happened with cds and dvds.

Errors reading the old or writing to the new? Either way it sounds like the drive is dying or at least has exhausted its pool of spare sectors to remap bad ones.

Which usually means it's dying.

The error comes in the transfer process, its like the files are corrupted. I guess out of 150GB losing 3 files isnt bad but still concerns me a lil. Both the new and old drives do as they should in HD Tach. Maybe just a fluke...

thats what I was thinkin aka, if i see anymore issues i will definetly do it that way. I have the raptor 150, wd ide, and this 300. 3 drives, 3 speeds

0 encountered this problem when transferred 300+Gb onto my new drives.

It is a good idea to def rag the drive before transferring data from xx.

There was a lot of stuff I really wanted back on my drives...2 things done first ran "Drive Health" that solved a lot of problems and got about 85% of my data over, The rest ....I used Ultra ISO & Nero........Crate a Nero image of the data > save the image in the desired drive then ex tact the image. Restart PC for every operation.
I had a mass of stuff I backed up om cheap DVD disc's and started getting redundancy errors there o but CD check took care of that.

Hope that is of help.

Ps..sorry for the spellind..It is 7.30am an' I just woke up.
