I need information about the original Cybex Commander. I found one dirt cheap at a thrift store and need to know how viable it is to use. I'm not sure what type of cable it requires to power it or if it needs any drivers. I have tried google but did not find out much other than it seems to have problems with linux.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks

Well if you get a look at the KVM you'll see what cables it will need. But you need to be concerned about the max resolution it supports. Chances are it won't support the resolutions of todays LCD monitors.

I would be using it with a generic CRT monitor so doubt resolution would be a big issue, I checked it again and all it says is "Optional 9 VAC" and then a warning.

Chances are it won't need power but if it does you can find universal adapters that will work for it.

How many ports is it? I think we still have one of these in our lab at work. It's always been reliable but it used special cables and not standard PS/2 cables. The one we have has 25 pin connections that break out into seperate keyboard, mouse and video connections.

Sorry that's not the same one we have but it does look like it would use the same cables. They would be proprietary cables that you have to get from Cybex.

I think i have 4 of these sitting in a store room. I may even have cables. in my research, it said it was compatible with Linux, but I have never tried.

The ones i have require 110V AC power and have port cards for 14 servers. there is a 15th port that i believe daisy chains other Cybex Commanders together.

The ones i have were taken from a data center 3 months ago, and were working fine before i acquired them. I think the full name is Cybex Commander Autoboot 4xp.

What other questions do you have?
