750 megs of space, 16 gigs of transfer...$85.00/year. Too tired to write more - too broke to care personally...

This is becoming a scam.

The mods should lock any thread involving new Cyberwing deals.

I don't think this is a scam, there are many people that have this working for them...myself included.

I'm actually working with one of the staff to get an issue resolved with my account now.

I'm beginning to think that Anandtech Forums should be renamed to The Cyberwings Advertisement Board.

i wouldnt call it a scam but i definetly wouldnt host my website there if it was important.

its more of a cyberrebate-ish issue...shawn needs to signing up more and more people to pay off his bills and he does that by offering more unbelievable offers.

your $8/year will turn into $8 for maybe two months of hosting...not a hot deal deal when you consider the hassle of finding a new company to sign up with.

And everything I've bought from them has been set up :)

 I wish I new what's really going on here? I have an account, works fine, however it's been over 3 days and no word about a trouble ticket I've entered (they've gotten back to me before in less than 2 hours). Plus, I upgraded my account (with their "ZAP" program) days ago and they haven't performed the upgrade yet.

I certainly feels like they're scrambling for money to stay afloat.... I hope not. But I just don't know.

Let's hope Shawn knows what he's doing -- cause it could really be the deal of a lifetime here (litterally, lifetime accounts under $20!? * <-= that deal has expired).

--------------- > added
Incidently, I have two open tickets, one from a few days ago and a new one from today. The ticket numbers are 1297 tickets apart.

Again, I hope they'll stick around, though --- I'll be with them for as long as I can. This does remind me of the old ISP dial-up Internet boom days, when ISPs where signing up people like crazy and had trouble keeping up.

Cheers.

My account just went live today (less than two days!)

For those that have had trouble, I can certainly understand your frustrations - however, calling it a scam certainly ignores the fact that there are many people that have good experiences, and calling for a lock on all future threads is uncalled for. Hammer on them to either set your account up or give you a refund - you are entitled to it...as for myself, probably the best 4 bucks I've spent lately. If they torch and burn I wont miss it (I'm mostly practice web design and stuff - I don't really have anything important to pus on a site). And I still have another account to use for free - can't really ask for much more than that...:D

I won a free hosting package for life a month or so ago, and it is still not setup.
What can I do about that?

pastdue@cyberwings.com is the email to be emailing with overdue accounts....

ppl who haven't gotten there accounts seem to have not tried hard, yet enjoy bitching. i rarely hear " two months and no account" followed up by and "i sent ten emails and called them too."

go do something about the things you've paid for... its your right. bitchin about it does no good. beyond getting your account setup YOU do have recourse.... that's why CC are nice....

Well the problem is that the sales have started up again, causing an influx of setups and trouble tickets. HOWEVER, they say they will be going to monthy on everything here shortly (monday?) and increasing the prices. (If you already have accounts, those rates are locked in, this is just for new stuff).

I've always thought that that's what they planned to do eventually, use the cheap prices to get customers initially, who can then also use word of mouth advertising, then raise the rates after that happens. MS did it, amazon did it, etc.

Anyway, its not a scam, at least it hasn't been for me. I've gotten a number of accounts, and most are setup. The first one took 2 weeks to set up when they had the big backlock, the next two took 2 days to setup.

If anyone hasn't gotten accounts setup from when they sent in the setup thing a couple months back, something is definately wrong. Use the helpdesk and or email them, heck you can find the CEO's email on the webpage.

Sure I have worries about if they can stay afloat, but if they are increasing prices for new customers in a few days and going to monthly billing for all new customers shortly, then that raises my confidance in them.

The only scam is from the crap-for-brains types that show up in any cyberwings thread to bash.

I signed up in early May, was set up within the described two weeks (though I thought it took much longer, and was about to complain, I had actually just missed the setup email from them for two weeks.) I did have a problem with my password not working, but support got that fixed ASAP for me.

I mentioned my new email setup to a friend on Thursday night, and he immediately hosted two domains on his own. He called a bit ago for me to help him in getting his nameserver info in properly at Godaddy, as his accounts had already been signed up at Cyberwings.

Yup, they're going for a very large economy of scale. Still a good deal at, for me, $4 for a year. And I only grabbed a domain, really, to have a permanent email address.

it took 1 week for my account to setup, another week for the zap5x upgrade and it has been very smooth.
I have nothing to complain about for $5 year.

I am very pleased with my service with cyberwings. I have only had 1 downtime since I had the service. Been since the end of April. Not bad. especially for $3.90/yr. www.vbcodesource.com

I have three sites with Cyberwings. So far so good. I set up my first accout with them about seven months ago. No complaints whatsoever. However, it makes me nervous to see all of these crazy sales. He could do great without the 5X this and double that. He could even raise his prices and still be way below any of his competition.

Again, I've had great service from Cyberwings. I just don't get their business strategy.

Yeah. All these sales are kind of scary because I don't want to move my website again if they go under. Their servers are really fast considering the price that I paid for my individual account. I get 130K/sec to 150K/sec consistently. My DSL maxes out at about 150K/sec.

Honestly, I doubt I'll use close to my bandwith or disk space, so what does it cost him to give me, say, double what I already have? It's like selling the "all-you-can-eat-buffet" to someone who will eat a single plate.

Well, normally I stay away from stuff that sounds "too good to be true", but I have to give them credit here. I signed up under the buy one get one free + 5x space/transfer promo two days ago. Paid a total of $8. Naturally I expected the setup to take a week or two, so imagine my surprise this afternoon when both setup e-mails arrived in my box. Both accounts were properly set up and had the 5x levels already in place.

Now if only I could get namecheap to fix the problems they seem to be having right now modifying name servers, I'd be all set.

I wish cyberwings the very best. If they do go under in two months, I will have more than gotten my money's worth. Basically (like many other people) I'm just getting familiarized with web hosting and I will not be pulling much traffic through at all. These are personal sites (like I'm sure most of Cyberwings) and it's not like I'm SOL if something happens to Cyberwings. I'll always have a current backup on my HDD (and tape), and if I have to find new hosting eventually then I will.

If these were business sites (or sites with a more serious aim) I wouldn't be using Cyberwings... no offense to them at all, but I would be looking for a hosting company that charges more and offers guaranteed uptime and a number I can call 24/7 and talk to a human being if problems crop up.

But as has been said by numerous people, this is NOT a scam. Businesses fail every day, but cyberwings has been around for a year now and has many satisfied customers (who have been customers for longer than two weeks). As was already said, the only complaints I'm hearing are from people who signed up and never followed through. Even with companies like Microsoft and Dell people can fall through the cracks. I don't call Dell scammers if they forget to send out that replacement part or follow up on a tech support issue. 99% of the time a simple phone call from me gets the ball rolling again. To IHYLN, instead of bitching in every single Cyberwings thread, why don't you actually do something about your situation? They have your money--you don't have your account... TALK to them about it. Go fill out a trouble ticket or e-mail them.

I am most certainly pleased. Now I just need to find the time to get my sites set up. These will be my first web sites since my first geocities (actually it was originally called geopages.com) back in 1995!!!
