I've been shopping online for a UPS for my Home Server, Modem and Router and had been looking at roughly $100 for a 400-500 Watt UPS with voltage regulation. I was cruising through CostCo and stumbled across this one:

http://www.cyberpowersystems.com/products/ups-systems/intelligent-lcd-ups/cp1350avrlcd.html

Looked it up on Amazon and NewEgg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16842102070

or

http://www.amazon.com/CyberPower-CP1...s=cp1350avrlcd

I'm sure it has to do with the Free Shipping on something that heavy, but dang that's $40 or twice the power of what I can find at the BIG online retailers.

I have that one, it's a great unit. It catches all the blips in power during the storm season. Tempted to grab one for my wife's computer too at that price.

Benchmark Reviews has a nice comparison review of the CyberPower 1350AVRLCD.
It's an older review from 2007 that compares the 1350 to...
Ultra 1500VA
Powercom Black Knight 1500VA
Tripp Lite 1500VA
CyberPower 1500VA

I have that same one I bought at Costco for $90. Its actually a regular price. But yes, a hot deal indeed if you have a membership.

Yeah, the breakdown on the tag said:
99.99 - $10 Instant Rebate = 89.99

Didn't think it's a special deal unless the specific store had messed up.... the thought crossed my mind. Nonetheless seemd noteworthy to those that may be looking for something.

That is a great UPS. I currently use one of those for my NAS server mounted in a telco rack. Works great with Nas4free for UPS monitoring and automatic shutdown.

I got one of these last year, excellent unit, it keeps my servers happily running when power blips out during storms and such. It's not pure sine wave, but it works fine with everything I have.

what kind of stuff would need pure sine wave?

Nothing in the consumer space that I am aware of, but I know some medical devices require it.

Excellent deal, for those of you that can get this, and CyberPower has excellent customer service. They swapped out a old unit for a brand spanking new one, without asking.

some cursory googling suggests that's some sort of old wives' tale
http://www.jonnyguru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3964

I'm not sure there is a real consensus on this topic. Even on the APC website they caution against using active PFC power supplies with some of their cheaper UPS units.

http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/RMUZ-7DTKRC/RMUZ-7DTKRC_R1_EN.pdf

I have seen my UPS (APC Backups 650) go into overload when waking my gaming PC, which has a Seasonic 650W active PFC power supply. Now, whether that is due to an old battery or not is up for debate. I just ordered the Cyberpower 1500VA unit with their simulated Sine wave output just to be safe.

If it helps anyone looking for one. I picked up one of these up at Costco in Simi Valley, CA for $89.99 today. They still have half a pallet of them left.

Just too be clear guys:

There is stepped sine wave which is common. Then there is pure sine wave which is expensive. Then there is a newer simulated pure sine wave which is like pure sine wave but at a lower cost...so far only seen this from cyberpower.

Using a PFC PSU on a stepped sine wave UPS is suppose add wear and tear on the PSU and also reduce the UPS run times.

Some PFC PSU's and stepped UPS do not work at all. The computer will simply shutoff like the UPS doesn't even exist. The cyberpower software has a test you can run to make sure it will catch a blackout.
